The book "I and She" falls into the genre of Open Reality Books, meaning books in which reality and fiction intertwine. Like other books by the same author, this book can be considered a novel interspersed with chapters and digressions reminiscent of an essay, always without unnecessary jumps in plot. The story recounts the brain transplant from a ninety-year-old geneticist, studying the immortality gene, into the body of a twenty-five-year-old pregnant black dancer, thus addressing prejudices, but in an ironic way.
The title "I and She", "She," is the feminine side, which conflicts with the masculine. Often, the character speaks of herself in the masculine, other times in the feminine, but ultimately harmonizes and finds the spiritual fulfillment of the perfect Androgynous.
The story addresses intergenerational conflicts, sexist and racial prejudices, and, more generally, the notion of "otherness", which brings to mind passages from Franz Kafka's "Metamorphosis", or, in some ways, the film "Poor Creatures", by director Yorgos Lanthimos.
Another novelty of the work is that the character meets the author in the real world, creating a blend of fantasy and reality, with many references to previous books.
The description of some sapphic scenes makes it inadvisable for a younger audience.
The cover features an NFT work by the author, titled "Black Madonna and Child," placed inside a rose, which recalls the month of May, and a woman's face, as well as deeper and more mysterious meanings, which I will not reveal here. It should be noted that the translation was not made by a native speaker, so there may be some imperfections, for this reason the book costs less than the original Italian version.
