Barbara J. Peters is a gifted communicator. As a former Licensed Professional Counselor and coach, her counseling style is interactive, respectful, non-judgmental, and supportive. She enjoys writing and has recently tried her hand at a children's book. Her newest release Moments with Britan, a Therapy Dog was written to show children the benefits therapy dogs provide. Barbara has been working with her therapy dog, Britan, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel for over 7 yeas and it has been a high point in her life. "As a team, me and Britan have spent many hours in assisted living facilities, the Charlotte Douglas airport, libraries, classrooms, hospitals, adolescent treatment centers, and universities, bringing people smiles and joy. The people love his visits and are grateful for the service Britan and other therapy dogs deliver." Britan's fondness for children at the library was the precipitating factor for the creation of this book. In the Revised edition of her first book, The Gift of A Lifetime: Building a Marriage that Lasts, Barbara lends insight from her years of experience as a couples' counselor to give people those essential tools and guide them on successfully using them. The revision includes a chapter on blended families, which is so important today because of the many divorces and re-marriages. The information in this book can make the difference between having a second honeymoon or seeking a divorce attorney. In her second book, Barbara focuses directly on the issues of communication, trust, forgiveness, intimacy, acceptance, friendship, and love, with a unique approach from three perspectives: The man's, the woman's, and Barbara's (the counselor's). He Said, She Said, I Said is a book that truly shows how one's thoughts can impact behavior and create misunderstanding. Barbara's third book is a romance novel: Never Too Old for Romance, now in Kindle edition. It tells the story of how love and romance can happen at any age and follows one woman's quest to rediscover herself in ways she had forgotten existed. It explores the many issues affecting mature women and how growing older can take on a new perspective. Her fourth book Blended Families Recipes for Success, Barbara provides easy to read 9 recipes to help couples get a jump start on creating a successful marriage hopefully to beat the odds and avoid yet another divorce. Just recently this book received the Gold award from Human Relations Indie Book Awards. Barbara received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from C.W. Post College of Long Island University, a Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing from Stony Brook University, and earned a Master of Science in Counseling from Georgia State University. A Long Island native, Barbara made Georgia her home for over 30 years. and currently resides in North Carolina and Georgia..
