In his first novel, 96 - first published in 2011 - Larry M. Brooks puts on display his unique ability to turn real-life experiences into parables that drive home his no-nonsense philosophical view points. 96 takes you on a breathtaking journey through Larry M. Brooks' early adolescent years of hustling in the back woods of Liberty, Texas, to his adventures of adapting to middle class life as a military brat in Hinesville, Georgia.

The storyline of this successful figure has to continue. I’m deep into the questions of what happened after and even within the stories of 96. Each chapter raises multiple questions of the details. In the next book, I expect that he’d paint a more vivid picture of what I’m seeing as I listen. This is easily one of my top 3 favorite autobiographies. You CANNOT STOP with this book. Kaffir Boy by Mark Mathabane told the story of him from a child to when he achieved a scholarship to play tennis in the USA. Turn those stones over! The story of how individuals beat the odds stacked against them, especially as a black man, helps to press youngsters forward. Continue to inspire! Fantastic job.

Autobiography at it’s best!

This book is phenomenal! I highly recommend it. In a world were so many black men are forced into folding under the pressures of society and bowing to the pressure there are still men who face the pressure and rise above it. This book is an example of how a man can channel your anger and use it to manifest something that is powerful.

Real Black Men Still Exist

I listen to a lot of of audible books and was nervous about how this book would stack up against other books I’ve enjoyed. Surprisingly I really enjoyed the listen. There was never a dull moment. was highly entertained and couldn’t stop listening once I started. listened to entire book in one sitting. Not bad for a rookie.

Enjoyed the narration..
