In this audiobook version of Why Should I Be the First to Change?, Chuck and Nancy Missler share the fundamental personal issues that led to the crises in their marriage and recounts the healing of a troubled Christian marriage from the viewpoint of both husband and wife.

What makes the Misslers' story so unique is that at the time of their marital crises, they were Christians - not nominal Christians or backsliding Christians but ones who loved Jesus, prayed daily, and were even teaching Bible studies!

In the first session, Nancy discusses how the Misslers' vastly different personalities and priorities led to conflict and resentment within the marriage. Citing relevant scripture Nancy describes in detail how she learned to set herself aside so that Jesus' life could flow through her. Humorous as well as serious personal anecdotes punctuate the narrative.

The second session relates Chuck's side of the story. A biblical scholar in his own right, Chuck vividly illustrates what happened from his point of view. Delivered in a direct, witty manner, his personal observations and biblical references combine to make this a delightful session.

Great personal testimonies while they discussed the process of changing their way of thinking and behavior towards each other. Fantastic!!

I really appreciated this teaching, but the description says it is the audio version of the book "why should I be the first to change?" and it isn't that at all. Kind of a bummer, because I'd still love that book on Audio, but I was still blessed by the teaching, just wasn't what it said it was.

Wasn't what it says it is

In all fairness I haven’t made it past the first portion of the book. I’ll try to listen again but was so turned off by the beginning. Stories of treating her disadvantaged child horribly and having millions and losing it. Aren’t christians supposed to not focus on money and treat our children kindly! She spoke of locking her food allergy daughter in her room while the rest of the family eats and tying her to her bed because of something wrong with her leg and she wasn’t supposed to move. No compassion at all for her child. Such a turn off how she refers to the blessing of her child as “this child.” No compassion just meanness and spanking to the poor child. Awful! And her husband sounded like an unhelpful absent father. Not an example I’d want to listen to from a Christian marriage.

Turn off to Christianity
