When a party thrown by the reclusive Lord Unsworth is marred by murder, his loyal secretary, Mr. Quayle, must unravel a web of red-herrings and old family secrets in this English country house mystery.

"I do not wish to disturb you, your grace, but there is a body in the garden...."

England, 1925. When a strange young woman is found murdered on the grounds of Unsworth Castle, the duke and his family are astounded at first, but quickly become enraged when the police begin asking all sorts of impertinent questions.

And when suspicions dare to fall on one of their own, it is up to Mr. Quayle, Lord Unsworth's exceedingly efficient secretary, to find the true culprit and save the House of Unsworth from scandal and ruin.

A Most Efficient Murder is the first in the The Mr. Quayle Mysteries.

This book offered a pretty solid start to this series. The narrator was good, and the plot moved along. I’d pretty much guessed the villains, yet it was nice to see the way it all came together. I’ll be reading the next installment at some point.

A Good Start to a Series

This is not a high-powered, edge-of-the-seat sort of thriller, but a mystery of the old school. I really enjoyed it once I got through the first couple of chapters. I was sure I knew who-dun-it several times with several different culprits but eventually just trusted the author to tell the story and and finished it in a couple of days. The narrator, originally, rather grated but again, once I just sat back, it was really enjoyable. Not something I'd take on a long car ride because I needed to pay a bit more attention but was fine to knit to. I'll plan on book 2 when it comes out.

Slow burn but well done

When I read the title details of this it gave off an Agatha Christie vibe. Although it wasn’t anything like a Christie story it was really good regardless. I really liked Mr. Quayle. He was a well written character. It kept my interest and I had to see how it ended.

Wonderful Listen

This was a great listen. Twisting and turning story. Key characters likeable and convincingly human. Narrator just right. Looking forward to the next one.

Great fun

Excellent plot and pace. Beautifully written with no slang or fowl language. The narration was very pleasant and easy to listen too.
