Elizabeth's reign begins. Can the divide between Protestants and Catholics be healed? Or will Elizabeth's rule be as bloody as her sister Mary's was?

Richard Fitzwarren's hopes that England may turn away from the religious strife wrought by Mary seem dashed. Beneath the surface, a very real battle is being waged against anyone with power who professes to an adherence to Rome and the Catholic faith. Can he still remain loyal when faced with such tyranny?

Jack, recovering, finds out what it actually means to finally be in control of his inheritance. He remains a target, many would like to remove him from the list of Elizabeth's nobility, and he's acutely aware that his situation, and that of his wife, Catherine, remain precarious.

The story is as good as the previous books, all excellent. The AI narration was not terrible but this method has a long way to go. Human nature compels us to compare old and new. The narrator of the previous books is very skilled at voices and consistency using the voices he chose for each character. The factor that pulls people into a narrated book is their ability to put emotion and depth into the characters, the ability to bring them alive. Virtual voice ain’t got no soul.
