The next thrilling Ham-Hill Murder Mystery from best-selling cosy crime author Frances Evesham.

A winning horse. A fierce rivalry. A sudden death.

Belinda Sandford thrills to the cheers of the crowd as her beautiful grey racehorse, ‘Butterfly Charm’, thunders past the finishing post first at Wincanton Racecourse. She feels like the luckiest girl in the world.

But joy soon turns to despair as a stewards’ enquiry overturns the result and awards the race to her long-time rival, Alexandra Deacon.

When Alex is found dead in suspicious circumstances, a host of accusing eyes turn to Belinda and her distraught mother begs Adam Hennessy, her neighbour, retired police officer and publican, to help clear her daughter’s name.

As Adam, and local hotelier Imogen Bishop dig deep into the murky and powerful undercurrents of the horse racing world, they lay bare the lives and loves of local jockeys, grooms, trainers and owners.

They soon uncover a web of secrets hidden within the spectacular Somerset countryside as they strive to find the killer in time to prevent more murders.

I am enjoying this author! If you like cozy mysteries, you will enjoy Frances Evesham’s books. I can’t wait for the next Ham Hill mystery. Guess I’ll have to wait until 2022. I love all of the characters, but I’m especially in love with Harley. Who can resist his big brown eyes?! Smiles. Thank you, Frances, for writing cozy mysteries with a twist.

I really like this series. Wish that there were 7 more books to listen to. The “mystery of who done it” is not easily guessed and it is fun to discover clues along the way. The setting is so comfortable that I want to go for visit and stay at the hotel. This is my second listen and I do believe that it is not necessary to listen to the books in order. Enough historical knowledge is provided through the conversations of the characters. Adam, Imogen and Harley are the stars. The supporting cast of hotel employees, neighbors, bar patrons, shoppe keeper, etc. enrich the story and help move it along. The description of characters really help the listener visualize in their mind what each character looks like. The narrator does a pretty good job of distinguishing voices. However, in this time of political correctness and respect for diversity, I am shocked at the voices used for the Asian woman and the woman from Romania. Their characterization comes off as cartoonish and laughable if not disgusting. Where are the editors? Certainly, a more ethnically and racial diverse work force is needed at Audible. It shows a lack of sensitivity and respect of others who are culturally different. Perhaps this is acceptable in England but certainly not in today’s US.

Good series; shocking aspects
