This book is most certainly contained in the complete collection of the Federation Chronicles. Other readers mentioned this novella was missing from the book but they are completely wrong because this novella is included at the end of the Omnibus. Do not purchase this if you bought the complete collection. The conflict begins: the AI and main characters in the story are introduced with a proper backstory. What I really liked about this story was the introduction to the AI/human consciousness bonded together and how he came to be in this position. Love was the catalyst and this statement is no spoiler. Decent novella but this is part of the collection so don't waste your money unless you buy the books individually.

I finished the federation Chronicles box set and found this novella prequel. leaving us. wondering how did we get from this earnest young man to Harding prime? I guess we'll just have to wait and find out
