The epic battle between humankind and their godlike rulers finally ignites in the masterful follow-up to Age of Myth and Age of Swords.

The alliance of humans and renegade Fhrey is fragile—and about to be tested as never before. Persephone keeps the human clans from turning on one another through her iron will and a compassionate heart. The arrogant Fhrey are barely held in check by their leader, Nyphron, who seeks to advance his own nefarious agenda through a loveless marriage that will result in the betrayal of the person Persephone loves most: Raithe, the God Killer.

As the Fhrey overlords marshal their army and sorcerers to crush the rebellion, old loyalties will be challenged while fresh conspiracies will threaten to undo all that Persephone has accomplished. In the darkest hour, when hope is all but lost, new heroes will rise ... but at what terrible cost?

Michael J Sullivan is a story teller that is head and shoulders above the rest of today's fantasy writers! not since LOTR have I read a series that has a story so well put together that it's surprising I'm not reading actual history! Simply amazing! Also, my favorite narrator hands down!

amazing

This book is a standard fantasy setting (with renamed races for flavor) that features many interesting and likable characters. I like that so many of the key players are female. In this book, even more of the likable but un-heroic characters begin transforming into heroes, each in their own way, so investing your emotions into many of the story's characters will certainly pay off in the future if you read later books. The politics become even more complicated than before and the explanation of how the magic in this world works develops into something more interesting than most other systems of magic I've read. Each book in this series ends after a game-changing climax but obviously sets up for a continued story. I can't wait for the fourth book to be published.

The plot thickens and the characters explode

Please listen to the books in order for maximum enjoyment. The characters are developed well and I found it easy to like them.
This series fills in the void left by Martins', as of yet, unfinished Game Of Thrones story. After The Legends of the first Empire novels, Sullivan is now one of my new favorite writers.

Couldn't put it down!
