National Treasure meets A Discovery of Witches…

Introducing the Secret Society mystery series and kick-ass red-headed heroine Sidney Taylor.

Thirty-year-old Black woman Sidney Taylor is a talented early American history professor, working in fast-paced Washington DC, with her eyes on promotion. She's also currently persona non grata. Who knew that making an inconvenient historical discovery would see her stuck at her desk, shuffling paper?

So when she receives an anonymous and very cryptic invitation to visit historic small-town Robbinsville, North Carolina and hunt for a missing archaeological treasure—with a million-dollar payout at stake—it's one she can't refuse. Besides, her beloved grandmother lives in Robbinsville, and it's been too long since she's paid her a visit.

Soon, Sidney's on an exciting treasure hunt, following two-hundred-year-old clues that lead her ever closer to the artifact she's searching for. But what is the artifact? And why is Sidney starting to feel like she's at the heart of a terrifying conspiracy she doesn't understand?

The answer blows Sidney's world apart, plunging her into a dark, glittering world of secret societies, ancient bloodlines, witches, and magic, linked to an ages-old conspiracy that could destroy the very principles upon which America was founded.

I absolutely loved this book! An adult book that has almost everything I require …well…there’s no smut…but I digress…Historical facts combined with myths combined with fantasy (maybe) combined with strong black women changing the world ?! Yes please !! The narrator’s voice did not annoy me. The story kept me engrossed . I wanted to know more!! Please Esme! Please continue this series !!!

This one is for the history nerds !!

The story is well written and played by the narrator. Entertaining and just like sitting to read a book I about listened completely in a couple of days.
However what I find/found amazing is that the writer used what is currently happening within our society and governments across the globe right now and it’s very very scary. It is definitely thought provoking and a sad reflection somewhat of where we are going in technology.
Other then that I loved this book and the narrator is wonderful to listen to.

Very very current information in this great story

I was so happy to find this book! I tried it on a sale, and was happy that it was a nice, long book and after about 15 minutes, I was hooked! Finished in two days, I couldn't stop listening! Smart, adventurous, and a mix of fact, fantasy, sci-fi and current events blended in a way that's highly engaging. The only negative I see is there aren't more in the series yet!! I listen to a lot of books, and this is a series I'm eagerly awaiting the next adventure!

Already waiting for the next!

Although I generally love this genre and books of a similar nature, I found An Intrigue of Witches to be a bit over the top for me. There were so many elements that made up the story, and for me at least, a few less would have made the story a bit more engaging for me. It felt like the author was just putting all the things she ever wanted to write about into the one book. And in the end, because of that, it just felt it jumped the shark a bit, especially at the end. That was where all the fantastical elements came together and more were piled on. And the characters seemed to take it too well, which made them less relatable.

The narrator on the whole was great, with different accents and voices. Only the one for the bad guy really just did me in, like a campy villain voice. It was too much.

A little too much of everything
