When the system fails, will you fight to survive?

Sam Wade is on a trip to reconnect with his estranged daughter studying in Boston when the interconnected US infrastructure is crippled by an unknown attacker. As the Internet, communication networks, and power grid go down, the world is soon thrown into turmoil and danger. Faced with no other choice than to battle their way home through a country on the verge of collapse, Sam and his daughter will have to face more than a troubled past - the future is deadly.

December 2015 - The Ukraine experiences a devastating cyber attack on its power grid that leads to widespread power outages.

July 2016 - Hackers bombard the aviation sector with over 1,000 attacks per month and remotely control and paralyze a Jeep on the highway.

August 2017 - The Irish power grid, US energy companies, and a nuclear power plant are digitally assaulted, and the US government accuses Russia.

March, 2018 - Atlanta is hobbled for five days, a troubling precursor to a larger attack that would tear a hole in the infrastructure and bring the country to its knees.

Today - The internet, communication network, and power grid go down, and silence and darkness dominate the nation.

As We Fall is book 1 of a postapocalyptic survival thriller series. It's a pause-resisting story about human connection and fighting to survive when the grid goes down.

This is a pretty good start of a series and I’m intrigued to see where the story goes. My only gripe is it’s a fairly short book. I will definitely look into getting the next one if it’s available and is priced appropriately for the length.

As We Fall is yet another great post apocalyptic thriller from Jack Hunt. This time around Mr. Hunt has America being hacked, not only is the power grid crippled but electronics of all sorts. Naturally chaos ensues and civilization begins to rapidly breakdown. The story focuses on Sam Wade an ex-Seal who is trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter as he attempts to fulfill his promise to bring her home to her mother. What would have been an easy trip is suddenly am epic ordeal. Excellent cast of characters and a good story loaded with plenty of fast paced action. Definitely looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here.

The book is narrated by the incredibly talented Kevin Pierce and as always he does a phenomenal job.

Another excellent book from Jack Hunt

Sam is in Boston to bring his estranged daughter home because her mom is having surgery. He hasn't seen her in years and knows it's going to be tough, but what he didn't expect was for an attack to happen and the grid to go down. With little to no working vehicles, how is Sam going to travel a country gripped by fear.

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this! I read a lot of PA fiction and it's hard to make a book stand out, but this author managed it. This book centers more on the characters journey than the PA event. I loved that it took a while for everyone to fully realise that yes, there has been an attack and yes, nothing will ever be the same again. Plus, even though Sam is a former Navy Seal, he isn't a prepper and isn't totally prepared for every eventuality! It just felt easier to believe. I also loved that Sam is able to act and do what ever's needed without overthinking things.

The characters were what I loved the most. We really get a sense of who they are. Sam is a tough, no nonsense guy. Sam's daughter, Anna, is angry with her dad but she also realises that he is the only way she will get home. Sam and Anna team up with some other characters, who were all well written and developed too, though not all of them were likable.... Lisa!! Gosh, she was so annoying and I felt for the others!! Lol. Also Annas' granfather!! I'm intrigued to know more about him but from what I saw, he is a controlling piece of ......!!

In all, this was a character driven post apocalyptic read, which I do enjoy!! It was fast paced and held my attention till the end. There were some cliche moments, like with the gang, but I kind of expect things like that from a PA book. When I finished it, I did want to jump into book 2 to see what happens so I do hope it comes to audio soon!

When I think of Kevin Pierce, I think of Post Apocalyptic fiction because it's what he excels in. He has read so many of the books like this that it's hard to come up with new things to say about him ;) Here he was clear and easy to listen to. He had plenty of tones and voices for the different characters and he even reads the female parts well. He is able to grab a person and immerse them in the world and is able to bring it to life.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Great characters.
