From childhood, Juliet Rose Dearbourne has planned to leave the dull land of her ancestors. But before she can escape, tragedy strikes the family. Not only is her mother killed in an accident, but their orange orchard is failing, and the bank is demanding payment on the loans they took.

Desperate to save their vulnerable orange orchard from insects and foreclosure by the bank, both her father, Quaid, and her brother, Sully, sail to Brazil to acquire a new variety of orange tree.

There, they are captured by a primitive tribe in the jungle. Now, Juliet must bear the burden of caring for her younger sisters, but that doesn't thwart her desire to run away to be a star on the stage. Taking her sisters, she heads to New York, where her journey to stardom is swift, but the price of fame is dear.

Would you listen to At Play in the Promised Land again? Why?

Yes, I really enjoyed the book and couldn't wait to see how it all ended. I would listen again just to get more of the wonderful nuances.

What did you like best about this story?

It tied everything together from the series. While it could be listened to without hearing or reading the other books, it meant more by hearing them all.

Have you listened to any of Kris Faulkner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I'm not sure as I really have not paid attention to who is narrating, particularly. However, she did a wonderful job with the varying voices of age, sex, character etc. Very consistent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Two of them - when Emmaline died, and the wedding. I was not sure how she was going to deal with that as it came down to the last second. Also, Clay's plane going down terrified me.

Any additional comments?

I loved the Christian theme throughout both the series and the book.
