How could the performance have been better?

Number one: a teenager from Miami should not sound like a valley girl from the eighties.

If I had listened to the sample I might have figured out this book is about a 17 year old. It is better suited for 13-14 year old girls. It is full of teenage angst...heart broken by first love (he broke up by text message), meeting a new boy but wait..my friend really likes him so I can't like him dilemma. And of course, the girl is supposed to be from Miami so I didn't expect a strong southern accent but, I didn't expect her to sound like a eighties valley girl. Seriously, if you are 13-15 years old you might like this book but to me it was a complete waste of a credit.

I probably will not finish the series. The narrator, Jessica Almasy is always wonderful. The story was just not something that enjoyed.
