The Duggar children were homeschooled. Their parents chose the Advanced Training Institute — IBLP's proprietary curriculum built on fifty-four "wisdom booklets" that tied every academic subject to Bill Gothard's biblical interpretations. That's not a standard homeschool program. That's a closed educational system designed to produce compliance, not competence.Former ATI students describe an education that deliberately capped academic achievement. One member learned only fractions. Another was told college was permissible only as a contingency plan. Girls were trained for domestic life. Boys were channeled into IBLP's training centers and programs like ALERT Academy, where they were isolated, worked hard, and told their labor was worship.Several Duggar children were sent through IBLP programs. Josh Duggar, after his early misconduct became known within the family, was sent to an IBLP training center rather than to law enforcement. The system provided the mechanism for managing the situation internally and quietly.At the Indianapolis Training Center, a hidden-camera investigation uncovered paddling and confinement. At ALERT Academy in Big Sandy, Texas, young men were isolated from their families for months. Mental health care was nonexistent across all IBLP programs.
