I've spent a lot of my business life building presentations, some sales related (actually quite a lot), many promotional for events and conferences, some teaching oriented and some entertainment based. I've been through all the 'here's how you should do it', courses run by employers and independent agencies. I've run such courses myself.
Sadly many presentations and promotions I see and too long, too convoluted and too detailed. Many of them too, seems to lose track and 'forget' what they were intended to achieve. Part of me blames PowerPoint (not the product itself but the dependency on it and the misuse of it). People often use it a tool to plan presentations, in other words, start planning by creating a slide set.
I'm firmly against that.
