A FUTURE FOR THE TAKING…

As the last Bloodnamed Warrior left in the former Jade Falcon Occupation Zone, newly-elected Khan Jiyi Chistu has ’Mechs, but no MechWarriors—making it impossible to rebuild his Clan after the disaster on Terra. Meanwhile, despite being riven by the Dominion-wide vote on whether to join the new Star League or not, Star Colonel Emilio Hall’s Ghost Bears have a planet full of talented sibkos ready to graduate.

When word of these sibkos reaches Khan Chistu, he hatches a bold plan to take them, eager to rebuild the Jade Falcons. But with Star Colonel Emilio caught up in the politics of the Ghost Bear vote, will he even see Jiyi coming? Or will he lose the sibkos that represent the very future of his Clan?

For both men and the Clans they hold dear, these dilemmas become nothing less than a question of survival…

I'm a big fan of BattleTech, and this book is great fun. I enjoy the majority of the characters, and the action is well written. The bully the younger character undergoes is a bit maudlin, but not unbearably so. I give it my recommendation!

Good fun pulp

This story was great, I really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the characters, the strife in the factions, and the battles. But WOW do I NOT like these readers. The woman is simply ok. But the guy? He LITERALLY sounds, and talks like, the guy who narrates the safety video I have to watch at work every year. He is terrible. And he has pretty much no inflection between the characters he is voicing. This guy is perfect for narrating something that I would use to fall asleep to. Unfortunately, this is a good book and he is screwing it up. And now I have to suffer through him again on the sequel book..........yay.

I do love that the newer Battletech books are incorporating duel readers, I love that setup. I just want a better reader. Tren Sparks is the best in Battletech, hands down.

Weighed down by the readers

The overall I enjoyed the audiobook. The reading performance was good and many of the characters were relatable. It was easy to connect with the motivations of the Jade Falcons and cadets. Like a lot of Battletech stories there were plot lines that were dumb just to force the story in the direction to align with the greater universe. I hadn't heard the narrators before and I think they did a good job. The mech combat was solidly written and in total this was an enjoyable listen.

Good story, good and bad character motivation

A good look into what the RD used to be and what the JFs have become in the Illclan era. Honestly looking forward to the next book “Without Question “ .

Solid book all around
