Ellie, Sloan, Courtney, and Shy have been friends since they were teenage girls, and they have seen each other through many seasons of womanhood.

They are now entering their 40s, and they have experienced everything together. They have gossiped over their first kiss. They have jumped bi$%@$ and been jumped on. They’ve survived college. They’ve been each other’s bridesmaids. They’ve consoled each other through divorces. They’ve experienced childbirth together. They have even done drive-bys when trying to catch cheating boyfriends. The one thing they’ve learned over the years is that good friends will see you through the rain until the sun shines again.

As mothers, wives, and career women, it hasn’t been easy for them to stay connected, but when the holidays roll around it’s the perfect excuse for their foursome to reunite. Friendsmas, is the occasion and Ellie is returning home to celebrate. When the reunion opens old wounds, they are forced to face one another and to also look in the mirror and face themselves.

Before The Streetlights Come On, is a book of true friendship. When the men in their lives switch up. When their children act up. When their jobs are fucked up. When the universe seems like it’s cutting up; Ellie, Sloane, Courtney, and Shy tap into the power of their girl tribe to see them through when they feel like giving up.

Mannnn this was my first introduction to Ashley Antoinette and I was not disappointed. I’ve heard all about her previous works but something about this one drew me in to be the 1st and I wish I could experience this all over again. She weaved a tale of sisterhood that most only dream of having. Experiencing the various dynamics amongst the group along with the background of real life happening, and realizing that your sisters are all you have so they’re your safe space, the place you go to ground yourself again, and a place where you can be your most authentic self did wonders for my spirit. This book is legit a good fictional read for girlfriend groups to explore and recenter themselves!

The ending had me craving for what’s next. The book was intimate and engaging. It was dimensional without doing too much. All the characters are relatable.

This book is exactly what I needed heading into Christmas. It was a beautiful reminder of what’s really important in life—friends and family. Life is about connection, not stuff!

This story was beautifully written. I usually get worried when there are so many characters bc it’s easy for them to be written in a way that makes the reader feel like they (the characters) are incomplete. Ashley Antoinette did a masterful job of writing full characters with multiple layers. She brought them to life in such a way that made you feel like you were one of the besties and longed to be so lucky as to land one of the men lol!

“The End. For now…” makes me giddy with excitement at the prospect of a book 2 (and hopefully 3 & 4 lol)!

I feel like immediately running this one back! So, so good!!

Exactly what I needed…
