Rupert didn't especially want to be a prince. And he certainly never asked to be the second son of a royal line that really didn't need a spare. So he was sent out to slay a dragon and prove himself - a quest straight out of legend. But he also discovered the kinds of things legends tend to leave out, as well as the usual demons, goblins, the dreaded Night Witch - and even worse terrors hidden in the shadows of Darkwood. Rupert did find a fiery dragon - and a beautiful princess to rescue. But the dragon turned out to be a better friend than anyone back at the castle, and with the evil of Darkwood spreading, Rupert was going to need all the friends he could get.

I love all the books in the Forest Kingdom series, though I wish all of them were narrated like this, the dramatized adaptations are odd.

Fantastic series

Simon R. Green’s Blue Moon Rising is a refreshing fantasy that subverts classic tropes in the most whimsical ways possible. Green excels at balancing sharp humor with a genuine sense of stakes, ensuring the comedy never undermines the dire situations the characters face. It’s a rare find that manages to be both a parody of the genre and a high-stakes adventure all at once.

However, the book isn’t without its quirks. My biggest criticism is that "sardonic" must be the author's favorite word; at times, it feels like he had a quota to meet on every page. If you can look past the repetitive vocabulary, you’re left with a witty, imaginative journey that breathes new life into old legends.

It doesn’t take itself too seriously

it took me a while to get into the book but all in all it was good. I had to get used to the very slite differences in inflection that the narrator gave each character but I did enjoy the grace of his reading style.

if you start this book just keep on listening
