Perpetual optimist Claire Harte-Mathias and her disabled husband, Jon, run a successful foundation to help people with spinal cord injuries. One night Claire witnesses a woman leaping to her death from a bridge, and the tragedy sparks murky childhood memories that leave her confused and frightened. As Claire becomes obsessed with trying to understand the power the haunting memories have over her, she's torn between blocking them from her mind entirely and trying to unearth their source. Putting both her marriage and her self-image on the line, she struggles to uncover the truth - only to discover that the past, present, and future are connected in ways she never dreamed.

I have listened to everything by this author, and loved them all, but this is my favorite. Simply a great story! The narrator was very strong, hitting the sweet spot between too little and too much characterization. Outstanding in every way.

Best yet!

I thiught this was a great story, with twists along the way, however I had the ending figured out before we got there in the book, for a change. The narrator was okay, not great, but I could get past that part. I felt a bit of disconnect between the 2 main character's mother and why she told the secret to the person she did. This book was good, just not my favorite by Chamberlain.

Another great story

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot was interesting once you are able to understand why Claire gets close to Randy and once her flashbacks start

Which character – as performed by Meredith Mitchell – was your favorite?

I have read many Diane Chamberlain books and I keep getting sucked in by the "mystery" to be solved at the end of the book. This again was written so you would remain engaged. However, I absolutely hated the main character. Her childish and selfish actions were extremely hard to get through. As usual I will say if you have no problem with infidielity and VERY unrealistic forgiveness then you may have no problem with this book. I found the narrator very distracting in this book and possibly what contributes to the dislike of Claire, but all in all you will listen to the end to get to the bottom of what happened. Ill still read D. Chamberlain, but each time I lose a little respect for the author and how she glosses over very hard and sad situations. By the way anyone know what the Brass Ring title was for? I couldn't figure out how it related to the story. Maybe I missed it.

Disappointing Main Character
