Essence® best-selling author Gwynne Forster crafts this moving look at a woman’s troubled relationship with her mother. Kendra’s mom Ginny has let her down her whole life. Yet even now, at 33 years old, Kendra can’t say no when her mother asks for help. So, determined to finally distance herself from Ginny’s lies, Kendra starts seeing psychologist Sam Hughes. Through Sam, Kendra finds stability, independence, and even a chance at love. But when her mother returns more desperate than ever, Kendra’s newfound strength is put to the ultimate test.

I like the story line of the mother it actually touched on my life a little. But I did not like how naive the main character seemed to be after growing up the way she did. I also didn't like how sheltered she seemed even though she was in her 30's. I can't imagine a woman growing up in the D.C. area and still out of touch with the culture. The story wrapped up to conveniently after all the drama then it was just happily ever after.

This book was an emotional rollercoaster, about never measuring up in the eyes of a parent. The lengths this girl went through was heartfelt & then a light bulb comes on, & she finally decides, enough is enough, & she starts accepting the reality about her relationship with herself, with God & with other significant people in her life.

Patricia Floyd is one of my favorite narrators and once again, that's how I picked this book. Gwynne Forster, I really enjoy your writing, you have the gift of touching the heart with words. I really enjoyed this book.
