I enjoyed listing to this book. The short stories don’t necessarily reflect a culture of Brown people . While I valued this writer’s work I caution all readers not to make generalizations of cultures that they are unfamiliar with.

This writer has provided us interesting stories. I especially enjoyed the last story of the 65 year old woman who bowled.

These were not always stories where something happened but always stories first and foremost about people, and, especially if you're from the Rio Grande Valley, about people you know. The short storiea were very much from the Valley, with their references and the way they showed how the Valley truly is, with all its flaws that may not be apparent if they don't affect you. But, they also showed good things about the people who live there; the reasons why the Valley stays with you no matter how long you've been away.

A love letter to the Valley, with all its scars.
