The driving force in the story, through four books, is romantic pairing of the characters. It’s an Armageddon story, but with a Jane Austen need to get everyone into a marriage relationship. Unfortunately, the author is not equipped to write a comedy of manners, and I didn’t want that anyway. I just get into Armageddon and the battles for survival, and suddenly have to wade through intimate conversations between the warriors , who endlessly bargain with each other over the cost of true love.
