Aaron Burr. Founding Father. Vice President. And the man who shot Alexander Hamilton dead in cold blood. But that was just the beginning. In Burr: America’s First Supervillain, JJ uncovers the real story of the most dangerous man in early American history — a man who fought in the Revolution, rose to the top of the political ladder, and then tried to build an empire of his own. From his cold childhood and battlefield exploits, to the infamous duel and the treason trial of the century, this is a biography that reads like a thriller — because it is one. Forget the powdered wigs and patriotic quotes. This is about power, betrayal, and a man who would rather rule in exile than serve in silence. He aimed for the throne. He got the gallows. And America would never be the same.

I went into this audiobook knowing very little about Aaron Burr, but I learned a lot and walked away fascinated. The author manages to take a less discussed historical subject and make it feel incredibly fresh with quick-hitting facts and a sharp, witty writing style. The narrator also made this audiobook experience stand out. He brought a fantastic level of energy to the performance, and combined perfectly with the author’s style. If you’re looking for a short-form history that’s as entertaining as it is educational, this is a must-listen!

I recently listened to this short audiobook about Aaron Burr, and while the content itself was engaging and informative, what truly brought the story to life was the narrator’s performance. The narrator struck the perfect balance between clarity and expression, guiding me through Burr’s complex life with ease. Their pacing kept the history moving smoothly without ever feeling rushed, and they infused just enough tone and energy to make even the more intricate political details accessible and interesting.

This audiobook is worth it for the content, but it’s the narrator who transforms it into such a captivating listen.

Like some fans of the play, Hamilton, I was left wanting to know more of Aaron Burr, what happened after the duel, and gain more insight to the man he was. This book was short but provided a great amount of detail about his life and ambitions. Rather than satisfying the need for more, now I am inspired to dig even deeper into history.
The narrator’s voice is rich, good tone & speed, and kept me locked in. He sounded interested in & excited to talk the material. It was like sitting with a friend having them share the cool things they learned. Highly recommend!
