Caroline Bingley and the Penny Stinkard

Caroline Bingley has resigned herself to a life of spinsterhood. At the age of one and thirty, she is content to live with her brother and help him raise his family. She fell in love once, many years ago, but has long since given up the hope of finding a gentleman who is her match—a person who is her true equal in every way.

Jasper Soulden has always adapted easily to his environment. He is a jubilant, comedic playactor who loves the theatre, but must leave his work to better provide for his ailing mother and younger sisters. It is with a heavy heart that Jasper bids adieu to the stage and begins his life anew as Mr. Charles Bingley’s valet.

When Caroline and Jasper bump into each other, she is dazzled by his smile and charms, but quickly realizes he is a penny stinkard and worth no more of her time. But when he turns up at Harker House, the Bingley family’s London residence, she finds herself drawn in by his playful impishness.
