In Checkmate, critically acclaimed novelist Steven James offers the final, chilling chapter in his best-selling series, The Bowers Files. When a clandestine FBI facility is attacked, Special Agent Patrick Bowers is drawn into the vicious, ruthless story that a killer from his past is bent on telling the world. Clues lead to long forgotten secrets buried deep beneath uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. Now, Bowers is caught up in trying to stop one of the most deadly attacks ever planned on American soil.

Smart, tense, and full of mind-bending twists and turns, Checkmate explodes onto the scene, bringing The Bowers Files to a climactic and unforgettable conclusion.

I like the characters in the stories, which is why I have kept up with this series. But enough of this repetitive Ing and navel gazing about good and evil.

Too much preaching and philosophizing by the author. Felt like half the book…over and over this sermon about good and evil.

Steven James always tells stories with twists that keeps you guessing. His bad guys are really bad, his daughter is very typical of millinials, and there is a touch of family life that is enjoyable. There is no cussing and is tastefully done.

Nice ending to the series

I have enjoyed every book of this series. I wish there were more! What a talented author. The books tie together seamlessly without being redundant. And yet, they can stand alone. I have read and listened to the series multiple times. The narrator is fantastic. His narration makes you feel that there are different characters narrating the story.

Love this series
