A widower, Laird Torsten Mackenzie has worked long and hard to regain the respect his clan deserved after his older brother turned traitorous. Even in death Cathal's crimes remain a mar on Torsten's conscience. Setting aside his grief, Torsten devotes his life to his people and to his young, motherless daughter. When a rival clan attacks his lands unprovoked, he's determined to put them in their place once and for all. Marching on their gates, he's taken by surprise when Lady MacDonell steps through the opening instead of her wayward husband. Reacting impulsively, Torsten exacts his revenge by whisking her away.

Headstrong and fierce, Éabha MacDonell's true nature has been buried for six long years in a marriage that fills her with shame and that has kept her tucked in the shadows. But the death of her husband, and being forced from the only home she's ever known, brings freedom in a way she never imagined. It leaves her free to rediscover parts of herself she thought she would never behold again - her love of art, her desire for children. But most of all, she now feels the tug at her heart, the warmth of a secret glance, and the heat of a passionate embrace.

I was hesitant to read this because I don't always enjoy the kidnapping trope but I'm so glad I took the chance. This is a sweet, romantic book that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Yes, he kidnaps her but she is always free to leave. He literally leaves the doors open for her. But she is compelled to stay as their friendship and love grows.

Narration is perfect but Antony Ferguson is a real professional and it always shows. He has a broad range of voices and accents and it colors the story beautifully.

So romantic!

Rotation and Ava meet in strained circumstances. Their mistrust of each other makes their interaction difficult. As trust grows, Ava thinks she must disappear. It gets more fascinating in each page.

A grand romance for Torsten and Ava

It was an ok story. But the voice of the woman was terrible. It was hard to finish the story because of that. Eliza Knight writes very good books though.

A Fair story!

So far of this series this one was my favorite. I’d love to see it as a miniseries. Still wish there was less sex lol. It’s so cringe. But it was the best one, I really liked the male lead! And the fact that he was a father.

Best one yet!
