The definitive account of the rise and fall of the world's fastest plane from British Airways' former Chief Concorde Pilot.

October 24th, 2023 will mark 20 years since Concorde disappeared from our skies. Yet still Mike Bannister, the last Concorde Chief Pilot, faces the same questions:

  • Why is she no longer flying?
  • Where is her replacement?
  • And what really happened on that tragic afternoon in July 2000, when the crash of Flight 4590 grounded the Concorde forever?

Concorde is an enthralling personal account of what it takes to fly planes faster than the speed of sound, and of the events that lay behind 114 needless deaths—the 113 victims of the crash and, ultimately, Concorde herself.

With so many books that we enjoy, we enjoyed them because the author made something up that was fun to listen to. This book show shows how flimsy a premise that can be. This book is based on a lifetime of learning, of experience, of investigation, of facts. This is the most enjoyable Reid I can recall, and it is all based on a lifetime of research and grounded in reality.

Absolutely beyond words, incredible

Mike Bannister’s book detailing his time with the Concorde was so well done. The story he tells of this wonderful aircraft, the people with whom he worked, and it’s final retirement is so engaging you won’t want to stop listening… What really stands out is him narrating his own story - you can’t help but feel as if he is sitting down and talking with you around a campfire on a warm summer evening…..

And - the accident… Woah, I thought I had a complete understanding of what happened that fateful day ( as do most of us I suspect )… There is a story here within a larger story about what really happened, explained in a very understandable way…

I cannot say enough good things about his work on this book and it’s presentation… I hope you will give it a listen

Absolutely Amazing

If Mike Bannister ever finds he needs a job in retirement (and when you get to the epilogue you’ll find that he does not) he could almost certainly find work reading audiobooks for a living. And that’s even before we get to his fantastic story about Concorde. This book is engrossing from the very first chapter all the way till the very end. A tremendous story that really helps both explain Concorde the machine from a man who lived it for over two decades, to the tragic Air France crash in 2000, interweaving his extraordinary career throughout the story. This is a book I would hardily recommend to any aviation enthusiast, particularly any young men or women interested in either aviation or engineering as a career.

Holy cow! Fantastic story, fantastic author/narrator. Listen to it in one complete sitting.

A detailed recounting of the history of one of the most iconic aircraft in history as told by a Captain who flew her, taught in her, defended her, and eventually saw her into retirement delivering her to museums.

The loving history of an iconic aircraft

As my title says - well written and not too technical. However i feel the author repeated himself a few times with facts i already knew.

Pretty good but seemed to repeat some stuff
