Conversational Greek for Travelers is not a language tutorial but an introduction to Greek for people visiting the country either for the first time or regularly. It will teach you numerous handy Greek words and phrases which will enhance your vacation, but it aims to do much more than that.

The book will also tell you what to say in social situations, teach you about the culture and etiquette of Greek conversation, how to deal with emergency situations, and do so much more than simply telling you how to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.

There’s a chapter on Getting Around in Greece, and Navigating Travel Situations too. And of course we won’t let you go hungry, with a section on Ordering Food and Drink in Restaurants. The book also covers shopping in Greece… in Greek, preferably!

The book is written by Mike Gerrard, publisher of the Greece Travel Secrets website and author of numerous guides to Greece, including the National Geographic Traveler Guide to Greece. He’s been visiting Greece since he was a teenager, and as a travel journalist who specialized in Greece there were periods when he visited the country five or six times in a year. In writing guidebooks he has driven all over Greece, for weeks at a time, including traveling in places where no-one spoke English.

The idea of this book is perfect. I like how it emphasizes common phrases, however, I am also using a language learning program in addition to listening to books and I noticed that the AI pronunciations are noticeably incorrect based on actual Greek speakers pronunciation. Be careful!
