Twin sisters separated by the past are reunited by unspeakable crimes in New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton’s throat-clutching novel of suspense....

Trauma victims are not new to medical examiner Faith McIntyre, but this one is different. The unconscious woman clinging to life after a hit and run is FBI agent Macy Crow. What the woman from Quantico was doing in a dark alley after midnight is just one mystery. The other is more unsettling: Macy is Faith’s mirror image—the twin sister she never knew she had.

Faith knew that she was adopted, but now she’s finding that her childhood concealed other secrets. Following the trail of clues Macy left behind, Faith and Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden make a shocking discovery on an isolated country ranch—a burial ground for three women who disappeared thirty years before.

They weren’t the only victims in a killer’s twisted plot. And they won’t be the last.

As the missing pieces of Faith’s and Macy’s dark lives snap into place, Faith is becoming more terrified by what she sees—and by what she must do to save her sister and herself from the past.

I’ve been in such a slump for months and nothing is holding my attention. Until this book. The only thing I can complain about is that it’s over :( from start to finish I was engrossed in the story! I love that there was always something new adding to the mystery, it kept me captivated and wanting to keep listening to see what would happen next. A true great mystery novel is when you can’t predict the villain. I can usually say “it was him” within the first 1/4 of the book but I could never figure it out with this one. A true gem! It flowed nicely, the narrator was great, and it was just an all around great listen.

Finally a book I loved

So, I’ve read 6 of Mary Burton’s books and I’ve really liked them a lot. BUT this one I loved. Here’s why; the storyline was wonderful but sad, about young girls a man considered “baby makers” then killed the girls after he had the baby, until he had the boy he wanted, but mostly I loved the relationship Hayden (the Texas Ranger) and Faith (the Forensic Pathologist). It went from secret meetings in hotel rooms with no kissing and no facing each other while having sex to a slight peck on the cheek to kissing on the lips to falling in love by the end of the book. It was a little romance and sex thrown in with murder and kidnappings to solve.

The ONLY problem I had with the story was that Hayden and Faith referred to his dead wife, who died FOUR years ago, as Hayden’s soul-mate and Sierra’s name was mentioned 23 times. I’m not crazy about a dead spouse being mentioned over and over again while the remaining spouse is falling in love again. Mention her 2 or 3 times but NOT 23 times. Just sayin’

I liked Macy, the FBI agent who was run down within hours of coming to town and Kat, the teenage girl who was taken by the killer in order to lure Faith to him. It really was exciting from beginning to end.

There was graphic sex in this book but certainly NOT erotic. And the F-bomb was used 7 times.

As to the narration: The last Mary Burton I read was also narrated by Brittany Pressley and I gave her 2 stars because it was like she didn’t even care if she sounded manly or not so she ruined the book for me. However, this time the men may have all sounded alike but at lease the sounded like men. Great job, Ms. Pressley. As of today I will gladly listen to you narrate.

Awesome read and great narration..
