What if the road to Scotland led Elizabeth Bennet away from one impossible marriage… and straight into another?

When Elizabeth Bennet flees Longbourn to escape an arranged marriage to Mr. Collins, she boards a northbound coach with three pounds, a stolen ham, and the grief of a woman whose father has betrayed her.

On the road, she befriends a desperate young girl running toward a forbidden love—never suspecting the girl is Georgiana Darcy on the way to eloping with George Wickham.

They assume names, swap dresses, and exchange stories. But when Darcy’s men intercept the coach, they seize the woman wearing the Darcy silk. The hood goes over Elizabeth’s head, and she is carried to a coaching inn, where she comes face-to-face with the arrogant and dismissive Mr. Darcy.

So begins the most improbable partnership on the Great North Road: pretending to be his sister while despising his pride, hunting a runaway girl from coaching inn to inn, and hitching a ride in a turnip cart through fog-choked moorlands. The road is long, and the rooms are separate. All proprieties are observed, as long as the fiction holds.

But somewhere between impersonalization and investigation, Elizabeth Bennet discovers that the man she was determined to despise is the only one who has ever truly seen her.

Darcy realizes that the woman he dismissed is the one he cannot imagine living without.

And Georgiana finds eye-opening wit and a startling revelation at the end of the road.

A forced-proximity road romance where the wrong woman turns out to be exactly right.

I just had to stop listening once her father called her selfish for not marrying Collin’s. Her father’s protection of Elizabeth in the original is one of the most endearing parts of the story. I was looking forward to a retelling, but not such a drastic change.

Changed the fathers character too much
