A YALSA BEST FICTION FOR YOUNG ADULTS BOOK OF THE YEAR

A CBC Kids’ Top Ten Favorite in 9th-12th grade category

Jared Peter Christensen is running for president (of the Junior Class Council at his university, but still). His platform is solid—built on increased equity and inclusion in all sectors of campus life—and he’s got a good chance of beating the deeply conservative business major he’s running against.

But when a transfer student enters the race, she calls Jared out for his big-talk/little-action way of moving. Dylan’s accusations make him question just how “woke” he really is. But what’s the right way to bring about change? As the campaign heats up, feelings are caught, and juicy secrets come to light, and Jared writes letters to his deceased friend Manny, hoping to make sense of his confusion. What’s a white boy to do when love and politics collide? Will he have to choose between his head and his heart?

I really did like the book especially the part where Jared said he needed to do stuff his way and not what everyone else said he had to be, but Jared messing up like (and I can understand because I’ve done the same, not exactly the same as him) dang bro you couldn’t just ask her yourself or just control you drink from doing the stuff you get yourself in now. I really understand that he knows he’s messed up, and try’s to do better but messes up anyways is so relatable. Also, it’s like he was trying so hard not to go one direction that it happened and now he had to really deal with the consequences for once instead of police of course, it was a girl who really cared about and that’s what probably hurt more too. But all and all good book, honestly one day I want to write a book or comic book or even a manga that makes people think about world views, relationships, and etc… like you did in this series!!!!

A quick read. On point with current events, I wasn't expecting that.

No book has challenged me and held me at the seat of a chair as Dear Manny. Nic Stone is a national treasure and what she has accomplished in her trilogy is nothing short of excellent.

Curious to see if this one makes the Banned Books list. I remember being at a conference that Nic Stone spoke at and she shared her secret with us about writing this book. I have held on to that secret for over a year waiting on the book to release. I must say it was well worth the wait. Bravo!!!

Loved hearing from the perspective of Jared!

I loved how the authorwas very honest and took positives to explain things especially as a teenager reading this book. It’s so sad that these books are becoming banned because these are a great way to relate to the world today

The honesty!!
