New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Crusie teams up with USA Today bestselling author Bob Mayer to write a sizzling, high-octane romantic adventure about a straight-talking woman and a straight-shooting man…

Lucy Armstrong is a director of television commercials who's just been recruited to finish a four-day action movie shoot. But she arrives on the set to discover that the directing staff has quit, the make-up artist is suicidal, the stars are egomaniacs, the stunt director is her ex-husband, and the lead actor has just acquired as an advisor a Green Beret who has the aggravating habit of always being right.

Green Beret Captain JT Wilder had thought that hiring on as a military consultant for a movie star was a good deal: easy money and easier starlets. Instead he has to babysit a bumbling comedian, dodge low-flying helicopters, and resist his attraction to a director who bears a distracting resemblance to Wonder Woman. Then the CIA calls and he realizes that somebody is taking "shooting a movie" much too literally.

Full of suspense and humor, non-stop action and fast-paced dialogue, Don't Look Down is the perfect blend of male and female, adventure and romance, Mayer and Crusie.

Critic reviews

“This first collaboration between bestselling romance writer Crusie and adventure-thriller writer Mayer is a rare delight. Mayer's delectably dry sense of humor perfectly complements Crusie's brand of sharp wit, and together the two have cooked up a sexy, sassy, and smart combination of romance and suspense that is simply irresistible.”Booklist

“Noted romance/chick-lit author Crusie (Bet Me) and adventure author Mayer (Z: A Dave Reilly Novel) team up [and] the writing is seamless.”Library Journal

“Plenty of big guns, helicopters…and light repartee…all in good fun. Readers will be happy to get a bit damp.”Publishers Weekly

have read this before so my expectations weren't high, however I enjoyed more of it than I did actually reading the book. unfortunately, once the action really got going it became a bit of a snooze fest, which shouldn't be and doesn't happen in Agnes and the Hitman (if anything, it just gets funnier). and it may have been inattention on my part, but I think they skipped my favourite line (it's during one of the sniper's monologues); that's the unfortunate thing about audible, you can't just skim read through to find a particular passage (I'll have to listen for it next time).
As to narration, the female narrator was good, but I just didn't like the male narrator. I think he was aiming for a gruff, "manly" voice, instead it was soft and a little hard to understand sometimes. if you haven't read this book I don't recommend this version, you may struggle with the male narrator's lines. He also made the male characters unlikeable imo (even the "good guys" were a little repellent, grating at best - well except for Gloom, who is impossible not to like).
was OK overall, passed the time while I was doing stuff; but I only bought it cos was on sale and I was feeling like a Crusie (but I do wish they had ones like Anyone But You or Getting Rid Of Bradley)

not Crusie's best

This book has an identity crisis: what is it trying to be? Who is it trying to entertain? Crusie alone is great; Welcome to Temptation is one of my favorite books of all time. I love her sense of humor, and the Dempsey family. But think she made a career-halting wrong turn when she suddenly decided her delightful stories needed more testosterone or something. And now nothing but theses awkward Frankenstein monsters of stories, slapped together from mismatched parts. The narration is equally awkward.

Who on earth do they imagine their audience is?

I like the narrator, Rene as she has improved so much since l first heard her recording.
I wasn’t nuts about narrator Patrick from the Robert Crais first book. I wasn’t nuts about him in this book either. He’s just does not carry off a man’s man at all.
Where my comments of help?

Thanks, Bob Mayer for forgetting this on audible

I am so glad this finally came out!! It seems it was lost somewhere but Jenny found it and got it released. This is my very favorite of the Crusie/Mayer books.

Ahmazing

The narration is so bad I couldn't get past the 2nd chapter. I'm so disappointed. The collaboration of these two authors produced one of my favorite books ever, Wild Ride. I had high hopes for this one. Please record it again or re-produce it. How did this ever make it to release? I'll probably buy the book.
