I didn’t like the way it was based on real people- to me it seemed forced at times at lacked the elegance of the first book and its decent sequel. But I love Keenes work and enjoy the lore and I especially like the “earthworm gods” series- so if your like me, then it’s worth a listen (or read).

normally i dont mind a little flat narration, but this guy just doesnt try at all. he speaks in the same monotone cadence and inflection in every scene and with every character so it feel like youre listening to a short story about just one person 20 times. It sounds like hes bored reading the material, sucking the fun out of even the most tense of scenes.

the other issue is the stories themselves. Even in the best of anthologies there are always a few weaker entries, but consistantly the tales in this book are just simply too short, even for an anthology series, the moment you get invested in the story its over and onto the next one.

this book fails at expanding the mythos of the brian keene verse in any meaningful way. I cant really reccomend this to even fans of his books.

The narrator is just plain awful.
