When elite members of the military are murdered on the streets of Washington, DC, FBI Special Agent Bailey Ryan and NCIS Special Agent Marco Agostini must work together to bring the perpetrator to justice. Unfortunately, all evidence points to a Navy SEAL sniper whom Bailey refuses to believe is guilty. When Bailey and Marco start to connect the dots between the victims, including a link to a powerful defense contractor, they wonder if there's a deeper cover-up at play. Then Bailey is targeted, and it becomes clear that someone is willing to kill to keep their dark secrets. With the stakes getting higher by the moment in a twisted conspiracy, there's a rush against the clock to determine whom they can really trust. As allies turn to enemies, the biggest secret yet to be uncovered could be the end of all of them.

While I found the story to be great, the narrator was very distracting and made it next to impossible to finish. She sounds like she has marbles in her mouth...ugh

Love The Story

I could not tell the difference between a man and a woman by the reader

Poor reader

This is a fast paced book of intrigue and never stop action, with a beautiful love story, great friendships, and faith.

🤯 Awesome!

The story was good but the narrator was so bad I barely got through the book. I will not be listening to any other book with this narrative. She has no expression in my opinion and can not distinguish between characters because of her reading!!! Just awful…sad to say…

The Narrator

This book has a lot of twists and turns with a drawn out investigation and clues found out little by little. The FBI and NCIS agents are competent. The book is more plot driven than emotional which I REALLY love. The romance is slow and clean with a strong male lead.

I do not like the book’s particular romance trope. The “fear of loss” trope is not particularly interesting to me, and this book does not add anything more to the table in this regard. I also do not care for the emotional romantic decision making by law enforcement within the context of the crimes being investigated. It is out of place and makes the agents look silly.

I always like Kate Forbes narration. She does a lot of clean romantic fiction. I like the book overall because of the strong characters and interesting mystery.
