End the Past by Rick Brooklyn Scott is a raw and emotionally charged narrative that plunges into the devastating aftermath of a long-term relationship shattered by betrayal and infidelity.

The audiobook immediately immerses the listener in the life of Ricardo on what should have been a celebration of his and Media's ten-year anniversary. Instead, he discovers his partner, Media, is cheating on him with a younger man, Austin, in their own apartment. The discovery leads to a volatile confrontation, interrupted by police, forcing Ricardo into a painful choice: stay and fight for a life that's already over, or leave everything behind.

I found this book truly gripping. While I thoroughly enjoyed the ride, the ending wasn't quite what I expected. It really made me pause and think—I honestly don't know how I’d react in that situation. There is a massive difference between hearing rumors of infidelity and actually witnessing it firsthand. That tension was captured so well. Overall, it was a brilliantly constructed read, and I’m eagerly awaiting the author's next fiction release.

End the Past by Rick Brooklyn Scott is an unflinching, emotionally raw exploration of heartbreak, betrayal, and the desperate search for self-worth after the collapse of a life once believed to be solid. Told with gripping immediacy, the story follows Ricardo at the very moment his world implodes—on the eve of what should have been a joyful ten-year anniversary celebration with his partner, Media.

Scott’s narrative wastes no time pulling the reader into the storm. Ricardo walks into their shared apartment expecting love and tradition; instead, he finds Media entangled with a younger man, Austin. The devastation is immediate, but the emotional unraveling that follows is even more compelling. Scott portrays Ricardo’s shock, rage, and grief with a realism that feels almost intrusive—as though we, too, have walked into that apartment and felt the air break.

The confrontation that erupts is chaotic, fueled by betrayal and years of trust suddenly rendered meaningless. When the police intervene, the situation veers into an even deeper emotional abyss. Ricardo is left facing a brutal choice: remain in the ruins of a relationship that has already died, or walk away from the life he painstakingly built. This crossroads becomes the emotional spine of the audiobook, and Scott guides the listener through it with careful, humanizing detail.

What makes End the Past especially powerful is its commitment to honesty. There is no romanticizing heartbreak here—no neat moral lessons or soft landings. Scott allows the pain to be sharp, the humiliation to be real, and the internal battle to be messy. Yet through this rawness, the story becomes deeply relatable. It’s a reminder of how quickly years of love can be undone, and how survival sometimes begins with the courage to leave.

The audiobook format enhances the emotional impact, immersing the listener in Ricardo’s inner turmoil as he grapples with the pieces of his life. It feels intimate, almost confessional, which amplifies both the tension and the heartbreak.

End the Past is not a comfortable story, but it is a compelling one. For readers who appreciate emotionally driven fiction that tackles betrayal and the painful process of starting over, Rick Brooklyn Scott delivers a narrative that lingers long after the final chapter.
