Keeper, Cliffhanger

4.5 stars - Lulu and Jarrod's story continues and more sharing occurs about why she left her first university behind unexpectedly. It's heartbreaking what she deals with but I love how Jarrod responds. It proves that he's a keeper. It's also nice to see how her friends and brother, although sometimes misguided, are there to support her any way they can.

Things get hot but they also get dangerous in this installment. Of course, that cliffhanger has me itching for the next book!

One of the things I've loved about the over arcing series is how past and future series focus characters are in and out of the other storylines, usually with some overlapping timelines. For this reason I'd recommend reading or listening to each series in order (Rules, History, Intimacy, Fate - I think that's all of them). I didn't follow this and wish I had.

In this specific case, I listened to the book that I received from the author. I like the narrator, Vera Zweig, but wish this series had been made with dual narration.

As we continue Lou and Jarrod’s story, we follow Lou through her journey of healing from her trauma, and Jarrod’s patience and love. Now that her secret is out, Lou seems to be wanting to move on, but she’s still pulling away from those she loves. As things come to a head, and after she’s decided not to let her past ruin her future, her past comes back even harder and leaves us with quite a cliffhanger. Jarrod is proving how much he loves Lou, being patient and understanding of her mood swings, while Lou continues to struggle with her fears. The question really is, is their love enough to move past everything? A good second book, and moves the story along at a good pace. There’s not a lot of filler, the story is told, but not rushed. Time passes, and we are given the moments that matter. A quick, emotionally packed read.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book especially as an audiobook. This series is full of feels and tackles a hard subject in a respectful and realistic way. The characters are believable and engaging and the story pulls you right in and when it ends you stare into space fir a minute imagining what comes next. I am eager to finish the series with the third book.
