Jesus' final days were full of risk. Every move he made was filled with anticipation, danger, and the potential for great loss or great reward.

Jesus risked his reputation when he entered Jerusalem in a victory parade. He risked his life when he dared to teach in the Temple. His followers risked everything when they left behind their homes or anointed him with costly perfume. We take risks as we read and reread these stories, finding new meanings and new challenges.

In Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginner's Guide to Holy Week, author, professor, and biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine explores the biblical texts surrounding the Passion story. She shows us how the text raises ethical and spiritual questions for the reader and how we all face risk in our Christian experience.

Entering the Passion of Jesus provides a rich and challenging learning experience for small groups and individual listeners alike.

God is good! Very eye opening in Jesus' last days. I would recommend to anyone that want to get closer to God, Jesus and the disciples.

An excellent theological, historical, and cultural overview of the various Passion narratives in the Bible. Through her lens as a Jewish scholar, AJL does great work in breaking down many of the less obvious symbolism and cultural significance in the story, all the while bringing it into modern relevance.

Definitely a book I will use for a Lenten study at some point in the future. This book is just the right level for a churchgoer or reader familiar with Holy Week and the gospels, but doesn't require any sort of specialized knowledge or education.

As for the narrator, she was fine. A bit bland and monotone, even for nonfiction, but perfectly clear and easy enough to listen to.

An Excellent Book with an Okay Narrator

In my theological studies, professors often said the reformers threw the baby out with the bathwater. Dr. Levine’s work, and not just this book, demonstrates that somewhere in Christian History, we forgot or deliberately threw out the teachings from Jewish roots. Not only is Dr. Levine a wonderful writer whether in academia or popular works, she is also a wonderful researcher with the ability to bring context to the ancient texts that I hold dear. I am on a quest to read everything she has written!

Much needed insight!

Once again, AJ writes a thought provoking work that I will continue to reread. I also enjoyed the woman who narrated it.

This book was wonderful.
