Listened to all three books. Historically accurate and very gritty. Had trouble following the narrator with my American ears at times. Left me empty. Yes, to the individual fighting man the big idea of victory and peace at war's end seemed way off in relation to surviving and witnessing one's friends and loved ones die in the horrors of war but there was more to it. Most soldiers survived - Britain fatalities were 1/2 that of WW1 both abhorrent and ghastly. But these stories reveled in just killing off all the characters and leaving the listener with a feeling of why did I just spent 30 hours listening to it.
