#1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen turns up the heat in this explosive new psychological thriller. This time a gifted arson investigator teams up with a mysterious operative to stop a killer raging completely out of control...

For Kerry Murphy, the inferno is never far away. The flames of that long-ago night still burn in her nightmares: the heat, the choking smoke, the helplessness. She can never run fast enough...

Now Kerry works as an arson investigator with her evidence-sniffing dog, Sam. Together they're a great team, but her life is about to change in the time it takes to strike a match. The deadly flames of her past are back, and from out of the ashes a stranger appears. Who is Silver? And why has he chosen her in the desparate race to find a killer determined to ignite hell on earth? Kerry and Silver may not have a chance against a psychopath as coldhearted as his method is red-hot. To save themselves and the innocent lives at stake, Kerry will have to do what she hoped she'd never have to do: fight fire with fire.©2004 Johansen Publishing LLLP; (P)2004 Books on Tape, Inc.

Critic reviews

"[A] rip-roaring thriller ... just might increase the sale of fire extinguishers."
--Publishers Weekly

"Terrific romantic suspense ... While there are sparks of romantic tension in FIRESTORM, it's the hunt itself that's so consuming."
--The Daily News (NY)

The narration of this book was excellent. Never sleepy and well paced and varied. The plot and character depth took a pleasant twist from near the beginning which was great because I was skeptical when the book began (initially wondering "is that all there is?").

One disappointment was with the main character. She didn't ever make me sympathize with her or even want her to succeed. Many times she came off as one-dimensionally defiant and at the same time never really knows what to do (no plan of her own) which just added up to annoying for me.

The rest of the characters and the first rate narration make up for this and help make this a pretty good book instead of the excellent one it could have been if the female lead was either made brighter or a better decision maker.

Narrator is great, female lead is weak

Love this Book! I hope there will be more books with the same characters from this book. Great story line.

Great Book!

As a general rule I Johansen's books are good. This one is the exception. Her main character is stupidly bullheaded and self centered and I have no patience with either trait.

I AM SORRY, JUST CAN'T FINISH

Definitely on my list of books to read again. I started off reading Johansen's Eve Duncan books and frankly got tired of the plots - it was good to find that she had other more interesting characters to write different plots with. This one had me thinking of Koontz's style of writing.
