FIRESTORM BECKONS YOU INTO THE DEPTHS OF THE COSMOS...
Captain Aaron Decosta, a decorated starship commander, embarks on a clandestine mission across the uncharted expanses. But fate has a twist in store when his vessel is swallowed by a cosmic maelstrom, leaving him and his crew stranded on a world shrouded in mystery and danger.
Back on Earth's galactic frontier, Colonel Michael Decosta receives the harrowing news of his son's disappearance. Bound by blood and honor, he defies the chain of command, embarking on a perilous journey to the Bone Yard—a place where space anomalies distort reality and where no rescue has ever returned from.
As father and son navigate their separate but parallel odysseys through alien terrains and treacherous alliances, their tales of survival converge in a saga of family and warfare. With a reunion their only beacon of hope, they must forge alliances with strangers and face off against unfathomable foes.
The Firestorm series offers an unrelenting adventure of survival, loyalty, and the unbreakable bond between father and son.
Note: This series is an homage to the thrilling pulp sci-fi of yesteryear. Hard science fiction aficionados may want to steer their ships to other galaxies. But if you crave high-stakes battles, unexplored worlds, and encounters with bizarre lifeforms, this is for you!
There's 2 lead characters, some books feature the adventures more of 1 than the other.
Basically a son, Erin, is a captain of a spaceship on a mission in their own particular galaxy when they get transported through an anomaly into a completely different, hitherto unkown galaxy. It starts with this storyline, then introduces Erin's father, Michael, an older (obviously), more seasoned, space ship commander, who leaves with a group of new to him volunteers, who are hardened, more special ops type kind of guys, all of which had previously served with his son, Eri. They go, on an officially unsanctioned, possibly suicidal, mission, to find a way through this same anomaly to rescue Erin & his crew.
They make new alien friends along the way, along with lots of enemies & even a few alien girlfriends to add tension & discord to the group. Of course, the way they get out of scrapes & the insane amount of captures & escapes from prison & executions, & the extent of alien generosity definitely requires a enormous dose of suspension of disbelief to swallow!
An example: The ease of procuring space craft, especially fighters & battleships, nevermind the cost of refueling & resupplying of ammunition, bombs, etc. defies imagination & all logic.
Apparently it's classified as a YA series (something Audible does NOT make easily identifiable & I wish it would), but maybe I'm too old to remember, but I don't think teens are that gullible? It seems to me to be something pretty common in authors who put out a large volume of fairly formulaic fiction.
All that being said, I still wanted to find out what was going to happen in the next book - all of which are way, way too short, only 3 or 4 hours. It really should be only 3 books tops, not 9. I would not have spent an entire credit on them, but fortunately I believe all but maybe 1 book was included & the one I did pay for was a small amount because of having Kindle Plus add Audio option (which is a godsend!)
So, bottom line, yes, it's simplistic in many ways, has a lot to do with, especially in the later half, the topic of prejudice (always a good thing to shed light on & extremely important to teach kids it's wrong), & the annoying trope of the crazy tyrant who gets away with so much, so easily because most are willing to hide their head in the sand rather than bring about change. At 1st I was thinking this was so unrealistic but then I thought about girls being unable to go to school or work in Afghanistan & many other insane situations in other countries & sadly it seems this is something occurring in too many countries in even the 21st century today! But, otherwise, there's a lot of interesting things about this series, & while it does get a bit repetitive after a while with the constant escapes & recaptures, the author at least tries to make each one different & it wasn't enuff to stop me from listening to more!
The variety of aliens (I really like the spore aliens, stick with the series & you'll meet them), the father/son dynamic, the variety of rebel groups & how they approach it, for examples. And of course, there's the good old fashioned battle for freedom against oppression & lots of exciting action & the tiniest dash of romance (without any uneccessay gratuitous sex thankfully!) to keep your interest.
Dune it's not, but if you just want not too bad, fast paced action with cool aliens, ships & guns - this is it.
Daniel Young has a TON of books and many, many series, a lot of them included in Audible membership & I have like the majority of them. I'd recommend checking them out. If this isn't to your taste, try one of his others.
My main complaint is that none of his series are listed as such, making it hard to find the next book in line. A search of the series name brings up sporadic results & no links exist to show all in a series. I had to go to Amazon & look up the books to find titles & order. Even there it wasn't as simple as it should be, but it was better. On Audible half the time the next book in series wouldn't show up by typing "Firestorm Book #" for example. Even after I added it to my library it was hard to find when I got to that point in the series. So, Audible, please fix that & add series links to ALL AUTHOR'S SERIES PLEASE!!!
