A thrilling prequel adventure based on the acclaimed TV seriesStar Trek: Picard!

Two years after the USS Voyager’s return from the Delta Quadrant, Seven of Nine finds herself rejected for a position in Starfleet and instead finds a new home with the interstellar rogue law enforcement corps known as the Fenris Rangers. Nice background story of how Seven meets the Fenris Rangers. David Mack really conveys the mixed emotions of Seven’s journey to herself after Voyager, but WOW there were many points where I had to rewind and re-listen to passages because January LaVoy -perfectly- nails Jeri Ryan’s sound, cadence, and vocal inflections as Seven. Brava! I look forward to more from her! xoxo

January LaVoy is amazing!

This will be a fantastic read for anybody who is a longtime Trekkie (like myself), and especially for fans of Seven of Nine. David Mack is a master storyteller! He writes Janeway the way we remember her back when she was Captain on Voyager. And 7 of 9 is a heap of sharp human complexity and female emotion. The author very elegantly graces the LGBT topic without going overboard but in a way that is tasteful and adds greater depth to the mystique of this half-human half-cyborg personality. And LaVoy!!! She was the perfect choice for its narration.

The success of the story makes the revelation that our heroine (7 of 9) eventually becoming Star Fleet, bittersweet. This was hinted at in the last season of Picard; which I didn't mind then; but that was long before this book came out. Now, I wished she had remained in the ranks of the Fenris Rangers. Had this been the case, I could easily see this being a new Star Trek spinoff.

Just imagine: Star Trek - Fenris Rangers

Definitely the New Classic Star Trek

Fallows Canon well with before and in new inclusion of Star Trek Picard and other series after.

Follows canon well!

Wonderful story, accurate canon characters, well acted. It was easy to imagine Jeri Ryan as 7 of 9 with the voice actress January Lavoy playing her. The budding lesbian romance between Seven and fellow Trill Ranger Ellory Kaydwas presented tenderly and believably, and without any clichés. Lots of exciting action as Seven pursues the rogue genocidal tyrant Kogish with her older partner and mentor, Keon Harper, who refers to the young crusader as "Kid." And, as Seven witnesses the death and brutality caused by Kogish, it brings back painful memories of when she was a Borg drone, a virtual slave of the Collective and had to help assimilate millions of other beings into being enslaved. She has an epiphany that was initiated when she was freed from the Borg by her friend, Commanding Officer and Mother- figure, Captain Kathryn Janeway.

I highly recommend this book/CD/streaming audio book. I also recommend to listen to it at least twice to familiarize oneself with the character, plot and various nuances. WELL DONE!
