Her codename is Chandler. She's a spy for a secret government agency. Trained to be the best of the best, no man is her equal.

That is, until she meets Repairman Jack.

Travelling to the Big Apple, Chandler isn't told what her mission is. Only that it's a big one. Forced to scavenge for weapons, she meets up with New York's number one vigilante, and sparks fly.

But Jack and Chandler have more to deal with than each other. When a blackmail scheme turns into a terrorist plot, it will take their combined efforts to save the city.

Unless they die trying.

If you are a more sensitive (or adventurous) listener, this handy scale rates specific categories from one (lowest) to 10 (highest) to give you some idea if this is your kind of book.

First off, if you’re here because this story is on “The Secret History of the World” reading list, you could skip this and miss out on nothing more than a short story involving Repairman Jack.

The absolutely robotic narration is comically bad. It sounds like bad A.I. I’ve heard lots of bad narration and getting through to the end of this very short story was a struggle. I wish I could say it was just because of how bad the narrator is. You could easily tell what FPW wrote versus whatever was written by the other authors. Chandler as a character is every bad cliche you could jam into a femme fatale character… that acts like a man. If this were a movie Brie Larson would be cast as the very wooden Chandler. This being my introduction definitely gave me every reason to avoid the character in the future. She sounded like bad feminist fanfic from beginning to end. The fact that there’s 8 books of this blows my mind. The only thing that got me through to the end was Repairman Jack.

Almost everything about this is amazing…ly bad.
