In this ninth action-packed Victorian military adventure, Paul Fraser Collard's roguish hero Jack Lark - soldier, leader, impostor - crosses borders once more as he pursues a brand-new adventure in Africa.

As he journeys across the table-top mountains of Abyssinia to the fortress of Magdala, Jack quickly discovers that nowhere is safe and nobody can be trusted. Expect devious spies, brutal murders, treasure hunting and action aplenty.

So I was fairly harsh regarding the previous book in this series, going so far as to say the series had jumped the shark. I was just being honest; I didn’t like the story or the progress the series was taking.

But with this one I think the author has done something not seen regularly in long a long series of books, he’s breathed some life back into it. This one kept me interested the entire time, put a historical figure and event into the forefront I wasn’t previously aware of, and kept me interested the entire time.

Bravo! And I can’t wait for the next!

Don’t call it a comeback!
