She knew. That's why Mom hadn't opened the door. She knew he was dead.

Twenty years as an army brat, and Ember Howard knew, too. The soldiers at the door meant her dad was never coming home. What she didn't know was how she would find the strength to singlehandedly care for her crumbling family when her mom falls apart. Then Josh Walker enters her life. Hockey star, her new next door neighbor, and not to mention he has the most delicious hands that insist on saving her over and over again.

He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can't deny their intense attraction. Until Josh's secret shatters their world. And Ember must decide if he's worth the risk that comes with loving a man who could strip her bare.

If you are in the mood for emotional story, you MUST listen to this book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

December was my favorite, I understood her feelings.

Which scene was your favorite?

The beginning of the story, how the author got into the pain they the entire family was going through it was very touching. I loved the end, no cliffhanger.

Very emotional Story!!

A wonderful listen. Lots of emotions all across the board, some family drama (not a judgment) while all struggling to find their new normal that includes terrible loss all lead up to a fabulous HEA. I adore this author and this title is just one of the reasons why.

Have some Tissues handy for this one...

*****Spoiler Alert*****

Audible Plus review. Single POV. Standalone, book 1 of 5 in the Flight & Glory series. Slow burn college/military romance. Narrator does a great job, only one error. Trigger warnings: TEARJERKER; Ember's father dies while in active duty; underage drinking; catatonic/depressed mother; Ember's boyfriend of 3 years cheats on her with her college roommate; Josh was wounded while in the military.

Lieutenant Joshua Walker was the only child of his mom who while he was in college was diagnosed with breast cancer, the bad-boy-motorcycle-riding-high-school-hockey-star in Ember's high school when she was a freshman, Gus's hockey coach, sergeant in the Army National Guard promoted to lieutenant after college graduation, plans on a career in the military after he was shot & saved by Ember's father while in Iraq. When his mom was diagnosed with breast cancer he moved to a college closer to her and joined the National Guard to pay for his education. December Howard (aka Ember) notified of her father's death on her 20th birthday, she has 2 younger siblings April (17) and August (7; aka Gus), is attending college to be a teacher to align with her cheating boyfriend's plans. Her father had been gone just over 3 months when he was killed. She had been dating the same boy for 3 years and while they were in a committed relationship he wanted to wait for physical intimacy until they're married. After her father dies she learns her boyfriend has been cheating on her for a year with her college roommate. She quickly transfers to a college closer to her mom and siblings and moves into an apartment with her high school best friend. Ember had had a crush on Josh while in high school but felt like he was out of her league and Josh also had a crush on Ember but thought she was too good for her. After Ember's dad saved Josh's life they remained friends and her dad even encouraged him to date Ember. The day her dad dies Ember and Josh are reunited in a grocery store and he offers to help her in anyway he can. She fights her attraction to him, finds out they're in classes together, he's her brother's coach, and her neighbor. They finally start a relationship and she learns he's in the military which is an absolute deal breaker for her. After a few months she learns about his relationship with her father, her mom intervenes and Ember decides their love is worth the possibility of losing him. In the end she's in college away Vanderbilt and he is a commissioned officer only a state away, they're not married but I'm hopeful for them. JP
