All Krys wants is to capture enough bounties to keep her belly filled and move up in rank, but when she and her dad catch a pirate, the pirate’s crewmates retaliate. The attack kills Krys’s dad and burns away half her face and limbs. When her relatives set out to avenge their fallen brother, Krys must choose between forgiveness and revenge, the law and the outlaws. No matter what she chooses, it will either be betraying her friends or betraying her family.

First, I think this was a teen book. It read like a middle-aged or teen sci-fi. It starts with a kid with the dad but they get in the middle of a battle and the dad dies and the kid ends up with cybernetic parts. The kid is always trying to do what's "right". This is repeated in various ways throughout the book. It is not subtle either.
a bit preachy
