Synopsis/Description
Maddy Donovan is trying to survive her senior year of high school. Her life is far from normal. Her stepdad is a shameless alcoholic. The power bill is due. And she has a math test tomorrow. She's living in survival mode, and she has no time to date that spicy older guy who keeps coming by the hardware store. What's his name again? Right. Gareth Delarosa. Black hair, hazel eyes, tattoos, over six feet tall--guys that hot don't belong in Black River. He's been her secret crush for the last five years, but there's an age gap, and he's way off limits.
But it seems like fate has other plans. When Gareth saves her life the night of a break-in, she wakes up in his bedroom, in his bed, wearing his T-shirt. Her secret fantasy is staring her in the face. Turns out he's a werewolf, and she might be his fated mate. Right. True love is about to upend her world!

Since I already said that one, my other one is I found it bothered me that Garrath referred to Maddie as "little girl"....the "baby girl" was made more tolerable as an endearment by 2 actors with a platonic relationship on Criminal Minds tv show.
Having stated my 2 negatives from the start, now I will go into the story.
First, this is not a "Vanilla" or YA story. This is definitely a dark slow burn bad boy shifter and an inexperienced young lady. There are uncomfortable subjects throughout the book...physical abuse, verbal abuse, drug & alcohol abuse and other possibly triggering subjects. Knowing this one can go into it knowing such things will be touched upon at various points in the book. Now, the main female character is Maddie. This young lady has not had an easy life and yet, she is responsible and tries to stay out of trouble. Despite so many things stacked against her she keeps trying her best and avoids vices and promiscuity. Enter Garreth an older male protagonist that is Maddie's secret crush. Garrett has a Dom/bad boy alpha air to him but consent is always requested as well as giving the option to stop if so desired.
The love of the forest and the mountains is clear by their descriptions. There are moments of tenderness, violence, fear, friendship and love.
I can't wait to get into the next one and see where all this goes! I want to see what happens with the main characters, as well as the supporting characters. I won't even mind the Virtual Voice. Looking forward to listening to the rest of the trilogy. Also, would be interested to see more from this author.
Lots to keep your interest.
