During the time period that this story represents, I always find it interesting how men seem almost dumb to the fact, and women seem terrified, of the expectation for the woman in marriage. Since women were a possession, a man could literally treat her Anyway he wanted. Yet, they were always shocked when the woman didn't like the idea of submitting or welcoming a marriage...so shocked that a woman would expect to be treated like a human. And women, completely terrified of marriage, no matter how much they wanted companionship or children because they didn't want to be beaten or mistreated for imperfections. It is often hard for me to enjoy books with this focus, however well written.

Great story with my favorite narrator. This story was refreshing, interesting all through the end. Wasn't just another romance. They actually shared a life outside. He finally met his match. I need to look for more. Thanks for a interesting story.
