My World is Built on Debts and Deals.
Beneath them all, you’ll find horrific secrets that we all hide. It’s lives. It’s souls. Scattered and countless, the dead have built towns, cities, and nations. They are forever damned in the afterlife because they wanted to live without fear. But did they really live without fear, or was it all an illusion?
A pact between devils is the only thing that keeps villages out in the desert-like land untouched by the scourge of this planet. The world we once knew is destroyed and what remains are those left behind trying to build homes to escape the reality that the end has already come. But are we any better than the creatures that loom, roam, tear, and destroy? Are we really worth saving?
At the age of nineteen, I was chosen and cast out of my village as a sacrifice. Now, I have no choice but to make a deal of my own or die out in the endless stretch of the Wastes.

The story isn’t perfect, but it really pulled me in and kept me invested. It’s about hope and survival—very much a “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade” kind of vibe. While most of it doesn’t lean too heavily into Christian themes, the last few chapters do bring in more faith, and it fits well.

The story lures you in. It is relatable in a broken kind of way. Life doesn't leave any of us whole. The choices we make are what define us.
In the beginning I thought she would be this stumbling girl. She is" sacrificed" by her village for the greater good. I expected a poor me attitude but she had focus. She didn't waste time blaming others.
I thought I would spend time yelling at the character for making dumb mistakes but every choice was one I would probably have made.
Nia does a graat job of obscuring the debt. It left me betting myself as to what she promised the Devil.
Anyone who has ever had a toxic relationship will see themselves in the character. We all know that feeling of chosing the biggest monster in the room out of fear or loneliness.
We know it's detrimental. We have felt the self-loathing and self blame. We know the feeling that we are unlovable. You don't have to be Christian to relate to this book. aWe all know the pain of thinking someone cared only to realize they wete inly serving their own self interest.
10/10 Recommend even if you are a Heathen.
