Seventeen-year-old Mickey James III is a college freshman, a brother to five sisters, and a hockey legacy. With a father and a grandfather who have gone down in NHL history, Mickey is almost guaranteed the league’s top draft spot.

The only person standing in his way is Jaysen Caulfield, a contender for the #1 spot and Mickey’s infuriating (and infuriatingly attractive) teammate. When rivalry turns to something more, Mickey will have to decide what he really wants, and what he’s willing to risk for it.

This is a story about falling in love, finding your team (on and off the ice), and choosing your own path.

This book has a lot. An outstanding performance by the narrator. Really deep characters and complex character arcs. Delicious tension between the two main characters. Characters fearful of making themselves vulnerable and then working through those vulnerabilities. It's silly to say, but I know I'm going to miss these characters, and I really hope there will be many sequels to come.

Excellent!

i bought the book on kindle to read it on there and just finished it earlier today; it ended on a cliffhanger but it was a happy ending regardless, and i loved every second of it honestly. the representation of mickey's mental health as well as his mom and her family's history with depression, the enemies to lovers trope between mickey and jaysen, the banter between both of them as well as everyone else, everything was just written and portrayed out perfectly in my opinion and, in some way, i felt really close to mickey throughout the story and his narration. a.l. graziadei did an amazing job on this, and for this to be their first book? i would've believed they'd been writing for years before i'd believe this was their first book! this was just amazing and i loved it so much, i'd definitely read it again<3

i loved it:')

1st off, the author did an amazing job detailing the background and building of the relationship between the two characters. Rivals turned lovers. It was so adorable hearing how they slowly fell for one another. The only downsides to this lovely story, in my opinion, was the ending. I understand where the author was coming from ending it how she did, but I still was a little disappointed not to find out who won between the two and how they continued their relationship afterward. Did the drafting event break up their wonderful love story? WHAT HAPPENED? I wish she would make a sequel, lol. Also, at times, the voice actor paused a little too long between characters, and it was extremely noticeable. But all in all the story was amazing, I highly recommend it!

I ate up every word!

the truth behind what happens to athletes whose parents have a history in the same sport and for the lgbtq community in general, I love how it doesn't sensor anything like there's certain sensors but like there are no censors to how realistic and truthful it is

The realistic

I really love the writing. Even though I never really played sport to that extent in some ways, what Mikey was talking about spoke deep inside of me. I love the romance. It was cute and chaotic. And how the parents apologized to him at the end.
