The beloved New York Times best-selling author tells the moving love story of caring for her parents in their final years in this beautifully written memoir.

Elizabeth Berg’s father was an Army veteran who was a tough man in every way but one: He showed a great deal of love and tenderness to his wife. Berg describes her parents’ marriage as a romance that lasted for nearly 70 years; she grew up watching her father kiss her mother upon leaving home, and kiss her again the instant he came back. His idea of when he should spend time away from her was never.

But then her father developed Alzheimer’s disease, and her parents were forced to leave the home they loved and move into a facility that could offer them help. It was time for their children to offer practical advice, emotional support, and direction, to the best of their abilities - to, in effect, parent the people who had for so long parented them. It was a hard transition, mitigated at least by flashes of humor and joy. The mix of emotions on everyone’s part could make every day feel like walking through a minefield. Then came redemption.

I’ll Be Seeing You charts the passage from the anguish of loss to the understanding that even in the most fractious times, love can heal, transform, and lead to graceful - and grateful - acceptance.

This is my 1st time reading Berg but certainly not the last. She so honest, so open, and so talented a writer that it leaves you thankful that she exists and puts special things like this out there for folks to experience. I’m 48 at the time of reading this and my parents are fast approaching this time as well. There are so many nuances that she touches on and many that I never even thought of coming upon…all of it sad. Just sad. And she captures THAT best of all. This piece of work will hit you hard in a good way. It will bring you back to feeling like a child, warm, and protected. You’ll feel that feeling. Heck, you’ll so many feelings but most of all it’s left me appreciating all my parents have done, what we’ve gone thru as a family, and the fact that I can still talk to them. Great book.

Thank you Elizabeth for sharing your touching story. My father passed away 12 years ago and my mom endured difficult times with his health issues. As I read this book I thought I was revisiting the last few years of my father’s life. Now I am watching my mom age and change as well. Again, so many relatable parts. I think this book is one everyone of all ages should read or listen to.

A must read for everyone
